5 quick tips to reduce your air conditioning bill this summer

Now that summers are here, it’s time to set up your bedroom air conditioning. The northern part of India is already burning, along with other parts of the country, and with that, even our pockets. Running AC power all night and day means a high electricity bill at the end of the month.

Although modern air conditioners are designed to consume less energy than older generations, they still burn a hole in your pocket when it comes to monthly electricity bills. So if you’re worried about using the air conditioner most of the time thinking it’ll generate a hefty air conditioning bill at the end of the month, we’ve got you covered. Here are 5 simple tips you can try to reduce your electric bill while using an air conditioner.

Choose the right temperature

You should never set the air conditioner to the minimum temperature. People often think that setting the air conditioner to 16 degrees will provide better cooling, but that’s not really the case. According to the Office of Energy Efficiency (BEE), the ideal temperature for the human body is 24 and any AC will take less load to achieve this. So it is better to set the AC temperature around 24. It will save more electricity and also reduce the bill amount.

Turn off the power button when not in use

Whether it is an air conditioner or any other appliance, you should always turn off the power switch when the machine is not in use. Most people tend to turn off the AC power with the remote, but that shouldn’t be done. This is because, in this way, a lot of electricity is wasted when the compressor is set to “no load” and this in turn affects the monthly bill.

Must use a timer to avoid overuse

All ACs come with a timer. So it is better to use the feature instead of running the machine all night. It’s always a good idea to set the timer for 2-3 hours straight before going to bed or at other times. So when you set the timer, the AC power turns off after a while. This will reduce the overuse of the air conditioner and also significantly reduce the electricity bill.

Maintain your air conditioner regularly

All appliances require maintenance, just like air conditioners. Although most manufacturers claim that their air conditioner does not require maintenance very often, this is not entirely true. It is always a good idea to have your air conditioner repaired in India as they are not used all year round in India. So there is a high chance that dust or other particles will damage the machine. So, it is always a good idea to have the air conditioner serviced before the summer.

Be sure to lock all doors and windows

Before turning on the air conditioner, it is advisable to tightly close each opening in the room. This will help cool the room quickly and for a much longer duration and also save on your electricity bill at the end of the month.
