A suspicious bomb-like device found at the Meja Road Railway underpass caused panic on Thursday evening. Commuters spotted the suspicious object and alerted the Meja police. Meja Police Station SHO Tushar Dutt Tyagi visited the scene and briefed senior officials. SP, trans-Yamuna, Saurabh Dixit, immediately alerted the railway authorities as a result of which trains on the route were delayed.
SP Saurabh Dixit said a suspicious object fitted with a timer-like device was spotted at the Meja Road Railway underpass. The area was cordoned off and traffic on the road was diverted. “The demining team was called to the scene to dismantle the device and check if it contained an explosive substance,” he added.
Investigations are underway to find the person who placed the suspicious object, the official added.
A similar device was found in the Naini area on Saturday. The BDS team dismantled the device but no explosives were found inside. The culprit had used disposable water bottles and even installed a connected timer by inserting an electric wire into it. The bottles have been taped with red tape giving it an overall look of a real bomb.
Two years ago, a series of such incidents took place in the trans-Yamuna region. Bomb-like devices fitted with a clock, etc. were found at Meja Station, Meja Flyover, Koraon, Naini and even inside a train. Although no untoward incidents took place, they caused panic among the locals. Despite all efforts, the police failed to find the culprits.
