Despite a sloppy and soggy race track, Fancy Girl and driver Francis Picard made it through the pouring rain and led from start to finish by capturing the $ 5,000 Mares Preferred 2 Pace at the 3R Hippodrome on Sunday afternoon (31 October).

With Fancy Girl in the lead, Jans Legacy (Samuel Fillion) was content to sit on the pocket seat. In the half mile, Wild River Swan (Steeven Gagnon) finished first with race favorite TC Scandal (Pascal Berube) second.

They hurtled down the home stretch with Wild River Swan unable to reach Fancy Girl. Meanwhile, Kiss Me Bad (Steven Gagnon) was in sixth place on the road and she swept three wide on the back right and cleared the first over three quarters.

Fancy Girl proved too strong in the lead in the stretch and held off Kiss Me Bad to win by three quarters length in 2: 03.4. Wild River Swan was third.

The win was the third this year out of 16 starts for Fancy Girl. Westwardho Hanover’s five year old mare is owned and trained by Dominique Picard of Warwick, Que. She paid $ 11.90 to win.

Driver Steeve Genois had hot hands with a hat-trick behind the wheel on Sunday.

Jessica Turenne scored a double behind the wheel which included a victory for Dany Fontaine-trained four-year-old racer Like Lightning Lou ($ 7.60), who beat Free Proof in race ninth to score his fifth straight. . The gelding Sweet Lou, which stopped the clock in 2: 02.2 in sloppy conditions, is owned by Yannick Marquis of Mascouche, Que., And Maxim Gagnon of Chicoutimi, Que.

Coach Pierre Piedalue also sent two winners.
