Whether for the sake of quirk or nostalgia, cartoon watches with vintage dials are simple what kids of the 90s consider to be of the utmost importance. Here are 6 of the best cartoon watches we’ve seen.
Via video games or TV shows, cartoons may have been the first fictional characters we came across, and that’s also why they will always hold a special place in our hearts no matter what. age. Like many other artistic and pop-culture influences, cartoons have found their way into the watch industry. This is nothing new. Cartoon dial watches existed even in the ’80s and’ 90s, but significantly find an appeal in today’s market for the sake of nostalgic silhouettes and retro themes. These are no longer children’s watches or cartoon products – some might even be considered limited edition collector’s items.
If you’re looking to flaunt nostalgia on your wrists, here are six of the best cartoon watches available today.
TAG Heuer Connected x Super Mario
Fresh out of the oven, this TAG x Mario collaboration is currently attracting all the attention of the watchmaking world. Starring one of the most prolific arcade protagonists in history and Nintendo legend, Mario, team up with the king of sports smartwatches and race day star, TAG Heuer. One of our favorite features about the watch is the animations it uses for activity trackers. It follows a reward-based system that tracks physical activity and fitness goals, making Mario your personal trainer. In terms of appearance, we see Mario’s signature colors spread across the timepiece. With a 45mm titanium body, it promises nearly a full day of battery life. It is limited to 2000 pieces.
Miss Audrey Sweet Fairy de Bovet 1822 WATCH ONLY
Sweet like Miss Audrey Sweet Fairy is her Bovet dial. Why? It uses an ingredient never before seen in watchmaking: sugar. Symbol of softness and purity, the dial of the timepiece is truly special. Along with Miss Audrey’s Super-LumiNova motif, the rest of the dial is coated with a protective lacquer, securing art for eternity. So no matter how hot things get, the sugar crystals don’t melt. Definitely one of the best cartoon watches to debut lately.
50th anniversary of the Omega Speedmaster “Silver Snoopy Award”
For those of you who don’t know, Snoopy and Omega first met in 1970 when NASA presented Omega with the Silver Snoopy Award. The Snoopy Award is a symbol of the NASA Safety Program. But why Omega? Because the Speedmaster was actually used to avert a tragedy during NASA’s Apollo 13 mission. In this timepiece we see a triple blue sub-dial with a representative Snoopy in an astronaut costume. It gets better with the caseback with Snoopy orbiting the moon next to the phrase “Eyes on the stars”. The watch achieves a perfect mark of simple elegance and is something every NASA fan would love to own.
Sonic the Hedgehog x Seiko 30th Anniversary Watch
Sonic The Hedgehog celebrated his 30th birthday with a cool new Seiko. The dial references the arcade game’s Green Hill Zone with an image of Sonic chasing the hour markers from the golden ring. In case you were wondering, the green stripe across the inner bezel represents grass. To keep up with quick business, there is also a chronograph on the bridge. Limited to only 3000 pieces.
Romain Jérôme Tourbillon Pokémon
We recently discovered this watch and were absolutely blown away. Without a doubt one of the best cartoon watches we’ve seen with a fully animated dial. Designed by Romain Jerome, it’s interesting to see a premium Pokémon watch on the market with a tourbillon and a six-figure price tag. However, we are sure there’s a Poké fanatic outside it chases that piece down. You gotta catch them okay?
Gérald Genta Retro Fantasy Mickey Mouse watch
Gerald Genta is one of those brands that always make watch geeks smile. This is one of those brands if you know you know or what most might call a ‘cult’ brand. Their mastery at their fingertips shows who is arguably the greatest cartoon star in movie history. In the 90s and early 2000s, it was safe to say that if Gerald Genta used Mickey Mouse on another dial, we could practically call this guy the official mascot of the brand. The dial and automatic movement are stunning, and the vintage Mickey Mouse motif is an absolute win.
