• WhatsApp will roll out new features to improve the “disappearing messages” feature.
  • The messaging application will allow users to control the length of time before which a message will disappear.
  • A user can also enable a default message timer to set a selected time for all new chats with the disappear messages feature.

WhatsApp is ready to roll out new features related to the disappearance of messages aimed at improving the user experience.

The latest update on Endangered Message features will be available for iOS beta testers starting today. No common user will see these features.

The new feature will be called “New Times and Default Timer” for now. The new features are meant to be tools for effectively dealing with disappearing messages.

The first of the two features will allow users to control new ephemeral durations. Previously, messages set to “endangered messages” disappeared after seven days. But now WhatsApp will introduce measures to ensure duration management.

Users will now be able to set the option “Messages that disappear” to different durations, such as 24 hours, 90 days and even seven days.

The second option is to create a default message timer for new chats. A user can enable this feature by visiting the WhatsApp privacy setting. If enabled, the option to disappear messages will be enabled for the user in all new chats for a selected duration.

If a user turns on the default message timer, their existing chats and new groups will not be affected by the timer.

WhatsApp for iOS beta and WhatsApp Business for iOS beta testers will have these new features today. Android users on WhatsApp beta will receive support very soon.
